Facebook has been caught trying to spread bad news about Google. Facebook hired the PR firm Burson-Marsteller to start a smear campaign about Google's Gmail feature Social Circle and to draw attention to their privacy practices. The firm started a whisper campaign through newspapers, magazines and blogs. One blogger they tried to persuade rejected their offer and then posted the email exchange between he and the firm on his blog. "The American people must be made aware of the now immediate intrusions into their deeply personal lives Google is cataloging and broadcasting every minute of every day -- without their permission," one of the Burson-Marsteller emails said. Facebook has not necessarily denied the allegations, though they said they did not ask them to start a smear campaign, "Instead, we wanted third parties to verify that people did not approve of the collection and use of information from their accounts on Facebook and other services for inclusion in Google Social Circles -- just as Facebook did not approve of use or collection for this purpose." In all actually both companies have had issues with privacy. Google keeps all of the data they collect and Facebook is just one major ad site these days. Do they sell the information they collect... To be determined. You can read more about it here. If you read the article then you will understand why I am giving Facebook a Digit Down.
