...Stephen Colbert
This week Stephen Colbert has been preparing himself for the Royal wedding later this month. He sat down with Royal watcher Hugo Vickers and silliness ensued. For some reason I could not stop laughing. What truly made me laugh were the faces he made while drinking tea and while pretending to be the queen. I must say Hugo was a great sport and I applaud him for his patience with Stephen. I am giving Stephen Colbert 2 Digits Up for keeping me in stitches over a 2 day period.

...Conan
Conan O'Brien is back on television with his new late night talk show "Conan". His new show comes on TBS at 11 o'clock, and boy is that major. Chelsea Handler and Jon Stewart both have shows that airs at the same time with Leno, Letterman and Colbert to follow at 11:30. Leno and Letterman skew towards an older middle aged audience so they do not have much to worry about but Stewart and Handler may have some true competition. Will the Coco lovers tune in and watch Conan? I am not sure. They might seeing how they did not the 1st time and he was fired, maybe they learned their lessons. With sponsors spending less than many years ago due to the recession, if Conan can attract the 18-49 year old viewers that they love and that Stewart regularly gets, he could put some fire under Stewart and start a new Leno Letterman type ratings war. Now after watching "Conan" tonight it was just like the old
Conan back on his old show at 12:30 with Andy at his side. Nothing really was WOW but it felt like he was back into the swing of things, not rusty at all, and his audience seemed to be really happy. ow let us wait a full year and see what happens with him and his ratings and George Lopez, who was moved an hour back to make way for Conan even though George has been with TBS for 2 years and Conan is new... Somehow this is a form of Karma in the making or just ironic, who knows, not me at the moment. I can see Conan doing well but if he does not than he has no one to blame but himself and his flaky young fans. For now I will give Conan a Digit Up.

...The Rally to Restore Sanity And / Or Fear
I honestly do not know what this was about. I watched most of it and I thought, "What is the point?" Really what was it? Both Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart pretty much put on a live variety show that just happened to take place in Washington D.C. and mention politics. Some of it was corny and cheesy and very scripted. It was a back and fourth between Stewart and Colbert over Fear vs. Sanity and nothing was actually solved. Towards the end Stewart got serious and addressed the problems as he saw it in speech, which can be seen below. With an estimated 215,000-250,000 people there no one knows what, if anything, this rally achieved. I would like to think it was just a nice outing with people who wanted to have a good laugh or two. Or maybe it was more like a live political comedy show? I am not sure actually, I am not sure the people there even know...or the host. For that reason I am going to have to give this all a Digit Down.
