Jerry Richardson is the owner of the Carolina Panthers, the team that drafted controversial Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton. At their first meeting, Richardson asked the star quarterback whether he had either of those things. Newton responded, "No, sir." Richardson said he'd like to keep it that way. Though most of his team members have tattoos and earrings, I think Jerry is looking at Cam as a future star for the team and he wants him to stay as clean cut and marketable as possible. Why? Well look at the other controversial, for other reasons, Heisman Trophy winner all the way in Denver. Tim Tebow has yet to prove himself as a quarterback in the NFL. He may end up being the 4th string quarterback this year, but he has made millions from Gatorade, Jockey, etc. He has 0 piercings and 0 tattoos and he has a squeaky clean image. Could Cam Newton be like Tebow? Maybe, though Tebow is much more humbler than Newton, but they both have winning past.
I am not a fan of tattoos, piercings I can handle. I do hope that Cam sticks with this idea, even if he goes to another team. I am giving Jerry Richardson 2 yes 2 Digits Up for having the gall to request this.
