...Hearing Loss
Today I found out I am lossing my hearing. I am young, younger than most, I cannot even rent a car, and yet I am losing my hearing! My grandmother is lossing her hearing, but she is almost 75! It all started with the sound of a teapot going off in my ear and the sound around me going in and out. Of course like most people my age I like my music LOUD! Not only do I like it loud but I like it to go directly into my ear. I have ear buds, not headphones, but ear buds. They fit firmly in my ear and cancel out all other noises around me. As a child I loss my hearing totally in my left ear and 75% in my right ear. They did some surgery and bing bang boom I could hear again. My mother would always warn me not to listen to music too loudly because she feared I would do deaf for real this time. Although I knew the danger of listening to music too loud my headphones or ear pieces would usually breakdown before my ears would even hurt. Now they are more advanced and they last a lot longer. Also I was hoping that medical science would come through and solve hearing loss. I mean they did give sight to a few blind people so saving an ear with more than a hearing aid seemed probable. Unfortunately this has not happened and I doubt it will by the time I do go deaf. Fortunately for me I still have a lot of my hearing and I just have to hold off cranking up the tunes in my ear. I guess I could use speakers... I will have to make a sound proof room 1st though. I am giving this a Digit Down because this is not cool, this is not fun, I am too young to have these issues. What is next for me, prostate problems?!? That could actually happen, you would have to be me to know why.
Michigan Thursday: 2012 QB Recruiting
There is an un-written rule that you take a QB every year, no matter what your depth looks like. Kids get hurt and transfer and you never want to be left in a situation where you only have a couple QB's on scholarship. Michigan's roster currently only has 2 QB's on scholarships (Robinson and Gardner). When Texas QB Russell Bellomy gets here this summer it will be 3.
Michigan has a Junior in Denard Robinson and most likely a red shirt freshman in Devin Gardner with true freshman in Russell Bellomy. Michigan has also received a verbal commitment from instate QB Shane Morris for the 2013 class who has been lighting up camps and 7 on 7 tournaments this summer.
So who does that leave for the 2012 class? Well, I can tell you who it doesn't leave. 4 star QB Zeke Pike picked Auburn over Michigan and others, now recent Michigan camper Austin Appleby committed to Purdue last night. Austin is 6'5 225 pounds and was hoping to earn an offer at Michigan's camp. He didn't and committed to Purdue.
That leaves really two more prospects for the Wolverines at QB. 5 Star QB Gunner Kiel who seems to be leaning harder towards Oklahoma or Indiana (his brother is on the team and he is from IN) or Maty Mauk. Maty was just in Ann Arbor again a couple of weeks ago and has an offer list from the likes of ND, Illinois, Cincy, Missouri and Vandy.
So where does that leave Michigan for a QB in that class? Since it seems Michigan has missed out on Zeke and Gunner and back plan Austin is now headed for Purdue. Is it Maty or Bust?
Yes and no. Michigan really doesn't need a QB in this class with Shane coming in 2013. In fact, many have said that Shane out preformed Zeke and others at the Elite 11 Camp at Ohio State a number of weeks ago. Gunner was the hands down best QB at that camp but recruiting insiders believed that Gunner started to lose interest in the Wolverines after Shane's strong performance.
Which I believes leaves the following strategy for the Wolverines at QB:
1. Take a QB in this class. If Maty doesn't turn Blue, Michigan could snake oil Austin or another 2012 3 star prospect later in the recruiting cycle.
2: Red shirt Russell Bellomy so he would be a red shirt freshman in 2013 with Gardner a red shirt sophomore and Denard a senior. (Shane would be a true freshman of course).
They have told Russell that he can compete for 3rd string but of course the coaches will want to red shirt him either way. With Denard and Devin both skilled at running the ball, they will need to have Russell prepared to play either way.
So I will leave you to ponder this: Would you rather have Michigan take QB in this class or an extra 5 star offensive lineman/4 star DE or DT? (Diamond, Kalis, Peat - Pipkins, Washington, O'Brien)
I vote for a lineman on either side of the ball!

...Tracy Morgan
Tracy Morgan has had a lot of bad press recently. We all heard about his "hateful" comments about gays he made while doing stand-up in Nashville earlier this month. He apologized and people pretty much got over it. Now he is being thrust back into the news for more bad press. He made some more politically incorrect statements while doing stand-up in New York City over the weekend. He said, "Don't ever mess with women who have retarded kids. Them young retarded males is strong. They're strong like chimps." Ouch Tracy, ouch. I wonder how he will apologize himself out of this one... Now personally I do not care about anything he says. He is a comedian, a controversial ann an edgy comedian at that. He is no different from previous comedians before him: Eddie Murphy, Red Fox, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Bob Saget, Kathy Griffin, and this list could go on for ages. Why is Tracy getting so much flack? We, as a nation, are too sensitive, we are too touchy feely and of course we are too politically correct! It is a joke, if you do not find it funny then that is you. If you go to one of his shows then you know what to expect, and if you do not know what to expect, then do not go! Freedom of speech allows anyone to say anything, most of the time, and we may not like it, but that is what separates us from many other countries. I believe that people are confusing Tracy Morgan with the character he plays on "30 Rock". Before that show, before SNL, he was and edgy comedian from the hood. He should not have to change his formula, because in the right arenas, his formula still works. However I am going to give Tracy Morgan a Digit Down because he id something that I do not lie at all, he apologized. He apologized after the touchy feely gays and gay friendly community came down on him hard after his Nashville show. Now he may have to go through this whole process again, and ever get an earful from Sarah Palin. You said what you said and it should have ended there. If other did not like it, so be it.
...Wal-Mart
Last week Wal-Mart had a major win when the Supreme Court said they women suing them could not do so as a class action lawsuit because the women were working different jobs and blah blah blah basically they saved possibly billions of dollars. However they did not win in the image department, as they have not been winning there for about 10 years. So for me it comes as no surprise that Wal-Mart announced it would be lowering its gas prices by 10 cents immediately. This discount will last until September 30th and it will be available at all Wal-Mart and Murphy USA locations. Will this help them save face? Probably not. But what it might do is spur more people to shop at Wal-Mart stores, because although they had fiscal 2011 sales of $419 billion at 9,000 stores in 15 countries, you can never have too much money. I am still giving them a Digit Down. I may or may not buy gas from them, I would have to drive out of my way to get it, but you know what Wal-Mart has still failed to do? Fix their carts!

Wolverine Wednesday: Has Some Quick Camp Updates
Here is some positive information from Allen Trieu, Midwest Manager from Scouts on 3 star Michigan Commit Ben Branden:
When Braden committed to Michigan earlier in the year, he was still somewhat of an unknown. He had a good camp in Ann Arbor last year, and we had seen him twice in the fall, and he had earned offers from Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Syracuse. So we knew he was good, but he has proven to be even better. He dedicated himself in the weight room this offseason, adding good weight and getting up to 319-lbs. Even at that size, he was moving well enough to be considered a left tackle prospect. He's strong, technique is improving and he's more athletic than previously thought. He has a chance to move into the top 7-8 in-state and the four-star range when rankings are updated.
Here is another instate guy, I keep hearing good things about as well: Dennis Norfleet, RB
He's been a hot name recently, especially on the heels of the IMG 7 on 7. Folks in Florida got to see what folks in the Motor City have seen for three years. Norfleet is a dynamic playmaker with excellent hands and he has great explosion and ability to make defenders miss after the catch. He has proven time and time again that he can overcome his lack of prototypical size. We had him in the top 10 in the state already, but he will be going up a couple spots.

- CBS Sports/Max Preps ranks Michigan's 2012 Class #2 in the nation at this point.
- TomVH updates RB recruiting with Alden Hill. Tom is not confident in Alden turning Blue at this point. With 5 star RB Dunn sort of one foot in and one foot out with OSU, maybe the Wolverines should look at Dennis Norfleet for the one RB spot in this class. Just throwing it out there.
- A Quick Memo to recruiting fans that follow recruits on Facebook and Twitter. Please use common sense. There have been a number of reports of badgering recruits on both services for Kyle Kalis and Terry Richardson. I actually would prefer you didn't follow these kids, but if you elect to, please just read their updates and don't message them back. Mostly if they make a decision you don't agree with.

...States
In California they are building a bridge from San Francisco to Oakland. Normally this would never make news in my eyes, but this time it is. Why? The bridge is being made by the Chinese. The assembly work in California, and the pouring of the concrete road surface, will be done by Americans. But construction of the bridge decks and the materials that went into them are a Made in China affair. California officials say the state saved hundreds of millions of dollars by turning to China. The state is already in debt so saving money is important, but giving money back to American companies is more important. But this is not just a California issue. In New York City alone, Chinese companies have won contracts to help renovate the subway system, refurbish the Alexander Hamilton Bridge over the Harlem River and build a new Metro-North train platform near Yankee Stadium. As with the Bay Bridge, American union labor would carry out most of the work done on United States soil. At $7.2 billion, it will be one of the most expensive structures ever built. But California officials estimate that they will save at least $400 million by having so much of the work done in China.California issued bonds to finance the project, and will look to recoup the cost through tolls. I guess $400 million is a lot..but when you are spending $7.2 billion already, what is an extra $400 million? Not much in my eyes. It cost a lot less to make things in China for sure, especially when you look at a typical worker. Pan Zhongwang, a 55-year-old steel polisher, is a typical Zhenhua worker. He arrives at 7 a.m. and leaves at 11 p.m., often working seven days a week. He lives in a company dorm and earns about $12 a day. It sucks but we cannot compete with such low standards of living. Still I must give these States a Digit Down. Where there is a will there is a way and if they really wanted to get a deal in America, they could have done it, but they are not going to "waste" their time searching for them.
Michigan Tuesday: Waiting is the Hardest Part
Michigan seems to be on a 3 commit watch with 3 Ohio prospects.
First is Chris Wormely from Toledo, the rumor mill is saying he could commit at any time now.
Second is Kyle Kalis from Cleveland, who just de-committed from OSU and the Buckeye fans are not happy. I wonder what they are going to think if he goes to Michigan.
Third is Jarrod Wilson from Akron who is scheduled to announce on 7/8.
Austin Hatch Update: From Hatch's CaringBridge.org page a recent CT Scan shows no worsening in his condition, and the major objective is to minimize stimulation to allow him to heal. His Care Team is limiting visitors to immediate family only to aid in his healing.
Dr. David Bojrab, a family friend, confirmed Hatch was still in a drug-induced coma Monday. Along with a head injury, Hatch also suffered a punctured lung, a broken collarbone and fractured ribs.
"They're not going to wake him up for a few days," Bojrab, Stephen Hatch's medical practice partner, told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.
Michigan is working with the NCAA on what they can and can't do. Since Austin hasn't signed there are NCAA rules regarding his name being mentioned and how many visits he can have from Michigan coaches, etc. They will make some type of special agreement to allow Michigan to get involved in his care and future well being.

...Paying
I hate paying for a lot of things. The things I hate paying for most would be: Gas, Food, Music, Insurance, Utilities, Cell phone bill, Cable/Internet and Hair cuts. Other than music, if I plan on moving to the Wet coast, California, I will end up paying a lot for all of these things, including taxes, whcih I do not mind paying for, but California taxes are crazy. I love to drive and West coast gas is more because it is so far from everything! Car insurance, house insurance...CRAZY high. I am young as well so it will be a portion of my pay check, the invisible pay check I assume I would have but probably would not...not regularly anyway, I am not a flake I am just not a robot. For now I will stay content with my South-East cost of living, though it still anonoys me. I am giving paying for things a Digit Down. Though I am an adult, none of you other adults out there can honestly admit you enjoy paying for things all fo the time.
