...South Fulton Fire Department
Gene Cranick lives in Obion County, Tennessee. His house burned down. Why is this news? Well the fire department refused to come to put out the blaze because he forgot to pay his annual dues of $75 dollars. In his rural part of town he has to pay $75 annually for the services that they provide. He offered to pay the amount over the phone but that was not good enough. When his neighbor, who paid their dues, called because he feared the fire would spread to his house, they came and watched Gene's house burn down. Gene had this to say: "I hadn't paid my $75 and that's what they want, $75, and they don't care how much it burned down. I thought they'd come out and put it out, even if you hadn't paid your $75, but I was wrong." This has sparked a debate as to whether the fire department was wrong or whether Gene should just get over it. Until 1990 that area did not have fire department services and some think that the people should pay the annual fee of $75 and be grateful. Others think that the service should be free, it is their job anyway. Technically I guess the fire department was not wrong, but morally they are. They literally stood their with hoses in their hands and watched the house burn down, with 4 animals and all of Gene's belongings in it. I am going to have to give them a Digit Down and hope that something major is down about this.
